An Post Rás – Stage Two for Irish Team

Stage two of the An Post Rás took place today with the riders racing 183.7km from Mullingar to Charleville. With Dublin UCD Fitz Cycles rider Eoin Morton taking the stage win ahead of fellow Irish man Bryan McCrystal of Louth Asea Wheelworx, it was a big day for the Irish. The Irish team fared well today, with Eddie Dunbar climbing up to sixth overall. In general classification Jack Wilson (An Post Chain Reaction) is the highest placed Irish rider, in fourth, with Conor Dunne (JLT Condor presented by Mavic) in fifth place.

Irish Team Manager David McCann was pleased with the racing of the Irish team saying “The stage wasn’t too bad, we are biding our time, as there are harder stages to come. But overall it worked out perfectly for today. I’m very happy to see Eoin Morton take the win; he’ll be on the Irish team racing in Philadelphia next week. Mark got caught up in two small crashes; he was down twice, but nothing serious. Tomorrow the stage isn’t too bad, but it goes over the Conor Pass, so it will be significant for GC.

This is the first time that Ireland has entered a team in the Rás since 2011, and this team is a primarily U23 team, with one experienced senior team captain. Multiple Olympian David McCann is the team manager for the prestigious 8 day UCI stage race.
