At the London Games Ireland came home with five medals. In the MH1 Mark Rohan became the double Paralympic Champion in both the Time Trial and the Road Race. Ireland's tandems also had success in the Time Trials with the female tandem of Catherine Walsh and Fran Meehan, and the male tandem of James Brown and Damien Shaw winning Bronze. Catherine and Fran also won a silver medal in the Individual Pursuit. Interestingly this formidable pairing will be competing in the Paralympic Games again in Rio, this time in triathlon, a sport which features for the first time!

Top Performances from Irish Riders at the Olympics

In the aftermath of what was an Olympic Games full of drama, the top performances of the Irish riders may have gone under the radar of some. For the Games we had 3 riders competing across the road and track. Dan Martin and Nicolas Roche performing superbly in a tough road race, finishing in 13th and 29th position in a race abandoned by many. Shannon McCurley impressed in the Women's Keirin event becoming the first Irish female to compete at the Olympic Games, and only the seventh Irish track Olympian.

On the track cycling front Ireland's bid for a Velodrome is well underway, with the current status for the facility being pre-tender. Planning permission has been granted, and we are awaiting word on funding for the project.
