‘Cycle Ataxia’ is a Charity Cycle in aid of FARA Ireland and Ataxia Ireland.  The event will take place on Saturday, June 20th, 2015, from Ashbourne, County Meath.  The event is open to the public and all are welcome to participate.

What's it for?

Funds raised will primarily go towards research into finding a cure or treatment for Friedreich's Ataxia (a rare, degenerative neuro-muscular disorder which effects muscle coordination and body functions), as well as providing assistance for those living with a genetic ataxia.

What's involved?

There will be 3 cycle routes to choose from, with distances ranging from 13km to 100km.  The short 13km route will be a leisurely spin; suitable for most abilities.  If you feel like pushing yourself a bit harder, the next step up is the slightly tougher 38km.  Finally there is the 100km route; which involves some demanding climbs - recommended only for experienced cyclists, or those with a high level of fitness.  All routes will be aided by support & guidance vehicles, and the longer routes will feature designated rest stations.  The event is open only to people aged 16 or older.

The 38k & 100k routes will get underway at 9:30am.  The 13k route will start at 10:30am.

What does it cost?

The entry fee to take part is €30 for all routes.  This is great value for money as it includes a free limited-edition, Cycle Ataxia t-shirt (subject to registering by 12th June), a light breakfast, refreshments during the cycle, and a full lunch afterwards. There will also be a trad' session in the clubhouse bar after the cycle!
