Competition Heats as Voting Opens for the Membership Awards, Tickets on Sale for Awards Night

Cycling Ireland’s Awards Night dinner takes place in the Crowne Plaza, Santry on Saturday 15th November starting at 7.30pm with a drinks reception. Tickets are now on sale. This function is held annually to acknowledge the achievements of Irish cyclists, from medallists at the international and national level to the Membership Awards, voting for which opens today. Some of the special guests confirmed so far include World Silver Medallists Ryan Mullen and Mark Downey along with the World Silver tandem pairing of Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal.

This year’s celebration will focus on the domestic and international achievements across the sport at the end of what has been a successful year in cycling which saw an outstanding year of performances from our international riders across all disciplines and the hosting of three major events, the Giro d’Italia, the European MTB Marathon Championships and the International Track GP. 2014 also saw a further increase in the number of Cycling Ireland members, with the membership now sitting at 23,000.

The nominees for the 2014 Membership Awards were selected by the various Cycling Ireland Commissions, and the range of nominees across all categories reflects the depth of volunteerism in the sport, without which the progression in cycling in Ireland would not be possible. Voting is open to all Cycling Ireland members who will determine the recipients of categories from volunteer of the year to best event and coach of the year. The coach of the year category is a new one and highlights the growth of the coaching community in Cycling Ireland, this year alone almost 600 coaches attended coaching courses nationwide.  Cycling Ireland members can vote HERE, voting closes at 5pm on 10th November.

The results of the Membership Awards will be announced at the Awards Dinner, and national medallists will be highlighted throughout the evening also. The new Cycling Ireland Strategy will also be launched at this year’s Awards Night.

Speaking ahead of the Awards Night, CEO Geoff Liffey said “This is an opportunity for people to meet their competitors in a social environment, 2014 has been another very successful year for cycling in Ireland and I look forward to seeing past, current and future champions on the night.”

Tickets for the dinner can be bought online HERE until Friday 7th November, or until they have sold out. Tickets cost €50 and must be bought in advance of the event. Tickets will not be available at the door.
