The concept of a Hall of Fame was the subject of a motion submitted by Cuchulainn Cycling Club at the 2012 Cycling Ireland AGM, and the motion was passed.
The Board considered how best to implement a Hall of Fame and agreed that members would be asked to submit nominations for inclusion. These nominations were reviewed by a panel with twenty-five recipients to be recognised as part of Cycling Ireland’s twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations in 2013.
It was also subsequently agreed a maximum of 3 inductees would be considered every 3 years, and therefore there were 3 new names were added in 2016.
As the initial panel had only recommended 20 inductees to the Hall of Fame, a further notice of motion was submitted and passed at the 2016 AGM to amend this to 25; effectively backdating a further 5 inductees.
Therefore 3 names were added in 2016, and the 5 backfill names added in 2017.
