Cycling Ireland would like to say a HUGE thank you to all the Volunteers who helped make it possible for the Giro d'Italia to take place in Ireland.

While Cycling Ireland was not directly involved with the running of the event, we had involvement on several levels, specifically with the volunteer marshal project in the Republic of Ireland. Despite having a late involvement with the recruitment of marshals for the side of the road, we were blown away with the support that we received from both existing members of Cycling Ireland, and also supporters from around the country.

Over the last number of weeks we held 20 training days, to give people the skills to marshal at this major sporting event, and these were attended by people from all over the country, who embraced the Giro with enthusiasm, pride and support.

We would particularly like to thank the 55 Team Leaders who were outstanding throughout the past few weeks, engaging with Cycling Ireland, the Civil Defence and the Garda Siochana, treating their role on the road with utmost importance. Your support has been crucial to the successful implementation of the marshalling on the road.

We would also like to thank the 24 Cycling Ireland Representatives who were present at the Cycling Ireland stands, available to answer any questions that people have about the sport of cycling. These Reps were present at stands in Belfast, Ballycastle, Cushendall and Dublin City, at the Irish Cycling Show.

For anyone who filled in their details and queries in a "Query Book" in the Belfast Fan Park, can you please re-submit your query through the contact us page on this website as the book mysteriously disappeared on Saturday Morning.
