Cycling Ireland College of Commissaires are delighted to announce the successful completion of the UCI Elite National Commissaires course (Road) by all four of its nominated candidates over the Winter.

Aaron Wallace (Banbridge CC), Aidan Higgins (Carn Wheelers), John Breen (Currow CC) and Pat Dowd (Garda CC) attended the course delivered by one of the UCI’s most experienced International Commissaires, Mr Martijn Swinkels of the Netherlands. The courses took place in Germany, Poland and the UK and we like to thank the German Cycling Federation, Polish Cycling Federation and British Cycling for giving our candidates the opportunity to participate.

The four-day course covers all aspects of Road Racing from the technical regulations to the controlling of the race convoy during various road race scenarios. The candidates are then examined by means of three different examinations testing their knowledge of regulations, race and results management and communication skills.

Achieving the endorsement of Elite National Commissaire now allows the candidates to be considered for selection for the next step which is UCI International Commissaire of which Ireland has a total of five.

Cycling Ireland wish to congratulate the candidates and are thrilled to see that our candidates who volunteer so much of their time to Commissairing and many other aspects of the sport nationally can also meet the tough standards established by the UCI.
