This weekend the Ras na nOg youth event hosted by Drogheda Wheelers will be used as a selection event for the European Youth Olympics for both under 16 boys and girls.
There are
three events over two days. All three events are being used as selection
events. Cycling Ireland Youth Commission members Dan Curtin, Sean Moriarty, Liz
Roche and Maurice Mc Allister will judge riders' performances at these.
Selection Criteria can be viewed here: http://www.cyclingireland.ie/uploads/files/cyclingirelandyouth.pdf
See Drogheda Wheelers Ras na nOg link for full details of stages.

Unfortuantely
the girls under 16 race in the PJ Logan was declared by the youth commission
null and void in terms of selection. This was due to interference by the lead
vehicle in the race. The youth commission selectors who were observing the race
judged the vehicle to be giving some of the girls an unfair advantage and this
coincided with a split in the lead group. As a result it would be unfair to
award points based on the given criteria. The lead vehicle at different times
in the race held up the riders and even at one stage riders overtook the lead
vehicle. The selectors have noted the effort made by all girls in this race.
There are still plenty of events left in the series.
Ras na nÓg stage one will now be a selection event as well as stage 2&3 as originally planned. Again, apologies for this but in the interests of fairness the commission has decided this is the best way forward.
