TG4 to Broadcast Cyclocross National Championships Highlights Show

Cycling Ireland is pleased to announce the 2020 Cyclocross National Championships will be live streamed from Enniscrone, Co Sligo on YouTube and Facebook on Sunday, January 12th. In addition, TG4 will broadcast a 1-hour highlights package in the coming weeks and make the coverage available worldwide across the TG4 Player.

The live stream, hosted on Cycling Ireland’ Facebook account, marks an exciting development as the innovative technology is utilised to broaden the reach of cycling and showcase the rapidly growing discipline of cyclocross.

Regular TG4 Tour de France commentator, Padraic Quinn will be joined by Sean Ó Tuathail for live commentary and interviews throughout the day. The 2020 Cyclocross National Championship will feature over 200 of Ireland’s top riders all vying for national honours.

Cycling Ireland CEO, Matt McKerrow added;

"Cyclocross is a fast paced and thrilling spectator sport which we are looking forward to bringing to new and existing fans. The disipline of cyclocross has grown exponentially over the past number of years and we expect to see its popularity continue to rise. It's a fantastic activity for youths and juniors as it takes place off road in a controlled environment and is a great way of developing bike handling skills. I am sure newcomers to the sport will be inspired to give it a go when they watch the action unfold in Sligo this weekend.

I want to thank Ballina Cycling Club for hosting the 2020 Cyclocross National Championships and all those who have supported the broadcasting of the event.”

Cyclocross Reps - Ballina CC, Damien Creighton and Bernard Twomey added;

“We are thrilled here in Ballina CC to be able to bring the Irish Cyclocross Championships to the Northwest and hope that this will really boost the adult and youth participation levels of Cyclocross in Connacht. Thank you to all our local sponsors and to the Enniscrone Community Council for the continued use of the Castlefield over the years.  A special thanks must go to the Ballina CC Cyclocross Team who have worked tirelessly all winter in preparation for this event, giving up their free time to build and organise what we hope will be a truly memorable event in the West of Ireland.”

The live streaming and TV broadcast are generously supported by Ballina Cycling Club, TG4, Enniscrone Tourism, and Velotec. Local event sponsors include Cycling Connacht, Hollister Ballina, Davy’s Lawnmower & Toolhire and Office Pro Printing.
