Voting Opens for Cycling Ireland Members, Tickets Go on Sale

The annual Cycling Ireland Awards Night dinner takes place in the Crowne Plaza, Santry on Saturday 26th November starting at 7.00pm with a drinks reception. Tickets are now on sale for the night which is a celebration of the cycling events and developments of 2016, across the many strands of the sport and activity. One of the highlights of this function is the Membership Awards, which is a time with the 29,000 Cycling Ireland members have the opportunity to have their say in where they believe recognition should be awarded across categories like Volunteer of the Year and Event of the Year. This year will see a new Bike Shop of the Year Award, and further induction(s) to the Hall of Fame. Cycling Ireland members can vote in the Membership Awards HERE, voting closes at 5pm on 10th November.

The Cycling Ireland Awards Night is a unique event in that it attracts people from across all cycling disciplines and categories. Throughout the night national medallists and special achievements will be honoured and you can enjoy the highlights of the year in cycling. With cycling being one of the biggest growing sports in Ireland, and one of the most popular activities for people of all ages, we invite all Cycling Ireland members the opportunity to come along to the event, with tickets now on sale HERE.

Following the phenomenal success of the Irish Paracycling Team at the Paralympic Games, where they won 5 medals along with numerous personal bests, the whole team will be honoured on the night. Guests this year also include members from Cyclist.ie, Ireland’s largest cycling advocacy group, with whom Cycling Ireland joined forces earlier this year in a move to reach out to the casual cyclist and to speak out for the safety of cyclists and the development of proper cycling facilities.

Speaking ahead of the Awards Night, CEO Geoff Liffey said “This is a unique opportunity for the whole cycling community to come together for a celebration of what has been another exciting, interesting and successful year. I’m particularly happy to welcome our friends in cyclist.ie to the organisation, and also to have most of the very successful Paracycling Team join us on the night. We have a great sport, and a popular one. The Awards Night is a great time for us to come together in a social environment to celebrate a year in cycling.”

Tickets for the dinner can be bought online HERE until Friday 25th November, or until they have sold out. Tickets cost €50 and must be bought in advance of the event. Tickets will not be available at the door. There is a special offer price for those wishing to stay in the Crowne Plaza Hotel and nearby Holiday Inn Express that is valid until the 26th October.

Nominations for the Membership Awards

The nominees for the 2016 Membership Awards were selected by the various Cycling Ireland Commissions, and the range of nominees across all categories reflects the depth of volunteerism in the sport, without which the progression in cycling in Ireland would not be possible. Voting is open to all Cycling Ireland members who will determine the recipients of categories from volunteer of the year to best event and coach of the year.

Nominations for the Bike Shop of the Year Awards

This year we have a new category – Bike Shop of the Year – with the nominees coming from many of our 480 cycling clubs. We received 53 nominations and shortlisted those nominations based on the popularity of the Bike Shops based on the nominations received.

Hall of Fame Induction(s)

In 2013 the Hall of Fame was introduced at the Cycling Ireland Awards Night, on the 25th anniversary of the organisation as it is today. On that night 25 people were inducted to the Hall of Fame, and it was decided that further additions will be inducted every three years. This year an adhoc committee was established to assess nominations from the Cycling Ireland members, and to decide on the 2016 inductee(s). The successful candidate(s) will be honoured on the night.

BOOKING A ROOM

If you are planning on staying the night, book a room fast, as the hotel are holding rooms for guests at a special price of €119 for the Crowne Plaza Hotel Dublin Airport and €89 for the Holiday Inn Express Dublin Airport. These reduced prices are only valid until the 26th October!
