| Dear Heather, The time of the year has come to plan... a Christmas Party! And this year, we are planning a big one! Mark the day in your calendar and we hope to see you on December 16th. It will be a super inclusive party with all sorts of members of the cycling community (and beyond!).
And if you would like to get more actively involved in the Campaign, our next Public Meeting will be a great opportunity! We will be holding a workshopping session where members can find out more about the Campaign strategy, see what the different groups are working on, and hopefully get involved in at least one working group. The meeting will be at our usual place, the Central Hotel on Exchequer Street, next Monday November 13th at 8pm.

Christmas Party 2017
Saturday 16th December - Not to be missed! Just confirmed! Dublin Cycling Campaign’s Bicycle Christmas Party 2017 will take place on Saturday 16th December in the lovely Dublin Food Coop in Newmarket Square (just off Cork Street and Clanbrassil Street - map). It will combine fine food, a céilí and the ‘Goldsprints DJs’ and will kick-off nice and early (7pm). All details on our website! | | 
What's Happening on the North Strand Cycle Route? Many of you will have been confused and dismayed over the very negative press reports on the design issues related to the important Clontarf to Amiens Street cycle route. You will have heard about the trees in Fairview, maybe even the loss of a stretch of car lane, and even the online petition by Councillor Damian Farrell seeking to have the final decision on the route rescinded!
There is a lot to be digested, and the project still needs to get off the ground. Check out Dublin Cycling Campaign's position on the route design on our website.
We need you to support this stance, to enable the project to move forward, and to ensure that Dublin gets the safe cycle routes it badly needs. | | 
Light Up Your Bike! This month, to coincide with the clocks going back, we handed out more than 1,500 sets of bike lights to encourage cyclists to 'Light Up' for the Winter evenings.
With the days being shorter and the nights are drawing in early, it is essential to light up your bike. Dublin Cycling Campaign is once again promoting an awareness campaign to share some advice and helpful lighting-up tips. | | 
Citizens Assembly Supports Cycling as a Climate Action Solution In its recommendations on How the State Can Make Ireland a Leader in Tackling Climate Change the Citizens Assembly strongly endorsed a much higher government priority for active travel and public transport. With a majority of 93% of the citizens supporting a recommendation saying - The number of bus lanes, cycling lanes and park and ride facilities should be greatly increased in the next five years, and much greater priority should be given to these modes over private car use. | | 
River Shannon Athlone cycling and pedestrian bridge approved We are thrilled that An Bord Pleanála has approved the proposed development of a pedestrian and cycle bridge crossing the River Shannon in Athlone. The decision was made on 31st October 2017.
This is a critical element of the jig-saw in building the Dublin to Galway Greenway which is part of the longer Moscow to Clifden EuroVelo Route #2 Capitals Route

Love 30 Update October saw a submission by the Love 30 Campaign to Fingal County Council on their speed limit review.
Mayo County Council has advertised proposals for 30 km/h speed limits on a small number of residential roads. This will increase the number of residential roads in Co. Mayo with 30 km/h speed limits, but 50 km/h speed limits will continue to apply to most residential roads and to town and village centres in the County. The deadline for submissions is 2nd December.
Following proposals for 30 km/h speed limits in housing estates, Sligo County Council has advertised proposals for a review of other speed limits across the county. The latest date for receipt of objections or submissions regarding this matter is 4 pm on Monday, 13th November, 2017.

Cycle lane to be shared with pedestrians in Phoenix Park Recently on my morning commute I noticed “Cycle lane closed” signs in the Phoenix Park. Engineers had been installing lights to light up the bicycle path along Chesterfield Avenue over the last week. The lights have been installed for the dark evenings to enable families alighting from their cars parked along Chesterfield Avenue and walk along the cycle trail to the Wild Lights festival in the Zoo. It’s going to be a very interesting one and looking forward to visiting. Unfortunately, there was no public notice of closing the cycle lanes for this event which will be held from Friday 3 November 2017, and every Friday, Saturday & Sunday in November, and seven days a week in December (except for 24th, 25th & 26th December approximately) and for the first week in January.
Paul McDonnell the Superintendent of the Phoenix Park got back to the Dublin Cycling Campaign after highlighting the closing of cycling lanes and issues with potential conflicts. The Office of Public Works (OPW) will now have wardens warning pedestrians about oncoming cyclists along the cycle lane and warning cyclists to be cautious while using the cycle lane from next week.
Please take care when using the cycle lane over the next few weeks and maybe let us know what the Wild Lights festival is like. | |

Infrastructure in South Dublin The South Dublin County Group is updating the list of poor cycling infrastructure in the county. If you see any poor quality cycling infrastructure, or good infrastructure, in SDCC let us know using the handle @FixMyRideDub on Twitter and post photos if you can. | | 
Submission to the Policing Authority on the Garda Policing Plan for 2018 Cyclist.ie, on behalf of bicycle users around the country have recently made a submission to the Policing Authority dealing with Garda inaction on a lot of road safety issues affecting the safety of people who cycle.
Among the issues we raised were: inappropriate speed, dangerous overtaking, 1.5 m MPDL (Minimum Passing Distance Law) Bill, #freethecyclelanes, etc.
