Premier Irish Track Cyclists Set to Compete in Dublin Track Cycling International
This weekend many of Ireland’s top track cyclists will be in action at the Dublin Track Cycling International, with the goal of amassing points to qualify for the World Cups series for the 2018 – 2019 season. The Sundrive Velodrome will play host to World Champions and World and European Medallists from the 7-8 July, and attendance is free for spectators.
Over the course of the two days fourteen events will be contested, with the UCI event once again attracting a high calibre of riders. Reigning World Champion in the women’s Madison, Lotte Kopecky (Belgium) will be present, as will her teammate Moreno de Pauw and Dutchman Dion Beukeboom, both of whom are regulars on the international podium.
All eyes will be on the Irish, with track stars Mark Downey, Shannon McCurley and European silver medallists in the madison Lydia Gurley and Lydia Boylan flying the flag on home turf.
The Dublin Track Cycling International is a key event on the cycling calendar, as it plays a role in the qualification process for the World Cup season for riders. With the qualification period for the Tokyo Olympic Games already in progress, it is crucial that as many Irish riders as possible qualify for the World Cups to maximise the possibility of gaining Olympic qualification points.
