Dunlevy and McCrystal win Silver at Para-cycling World Championships

National Record crushed in Tandem Pursuit qualification

 

IRELAND’S Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal have won Silver in the Women’s Tandem Pursuit Race at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Milton, Canada.


Dunlevy and McCrystal rode 3:27.358 to break their own National Record by over 3 seconds and qualify for the Gold medal ride against New Zealand pairing, Emma Foy and Hannah Van Kampen. New Zealand set a new World Record of 3:20.819 during qualification and so went into the final as favourites.


New Zealand led from the first time check and covered the 3 kilometre race in a time of 3:23.163, Ireland claiming Silver in 3:31.396. Griet Hoet and Anneleen Monsieur of Belgium won Bronze.


Dunlevy and McCrystal will race next in the Women’s Tandem Time Trial, a 4-lap 1-kilometre race against the clock, on Sunday evening.
