Exciting Weekend Of Cross-Country Action Ahead


The 15th and 16th of June will see cross country riders head to Cork for an exciting weekend of racing, not only is Round 4 of the National Series taking place on Sunday but Fermoy Cycling Club will become the first club to host an exciting new Mountain Bike discipline: Short Track Cross Country Mountain Bike. 


Both the Short Track Cross Country Mountain Bike and Round 4 of the National Series will take place in Kilworth Woods, Craigue, Co. Cork. 


Cross-country Short Track (XCC) is an exciting and relatively new format of Cross Country (XC) which was introduced by the UCI in 2018.


The 20-minute race sees riders battle over a course that ranges between 1km to 1.3km long – around two to three minutes per lap.


Speaking about the addition of this new discipline to the calendar, Caroline Martinez, Cross Country Mountain Bike race coordinator said:

"Short Track XCC is fast and furious, short and intense. A number of federations have now introduced the XCC format to their National Series weekend, as a warm-up race, before the main Sunday XCO event. 

"During a recent trip to the British Mountain Bike series, we had a good look their set up and thought, why not try do it too. Stephen McGrath and his team at Fermoy CC was game, so here it comes!"


The races will start at 1pm on Saturday 15th. The categories will be divided in three races to suits racers from under 14 upwards, open and women.


Numbers for the XCC are limited to 30 per race with places filling up quickly.
