In the Men’s Omnium Felix English finished 19th at the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships last night. Poland’s Sajnok took gold, van Schip(NED) won silver and Italy’s Consonni took bronze. The championships take place in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, from the 28th February – 4th March.

In the Omnium English raced aggressively in the final Points race, lapping the field to gain twenty points. However, a second attempt for a lap was pulled back, and he had to settle for nineteenth, after finishing 16th in the Scratch Race, 17th in the Tempo and 22nd in the Elimination Race earlier in the day.

“The race didn’t really go to plan,” said English after the race, “I felt reasonable good, and I just made a series of mistakes that ruined my race from the start. I tried to redeem it a little bit in the Points Race, there wasn’t really much else I could do.”

Today English competes in the Madison with Mark Downey, and is looking forward to it – “The fact was feeling okay in the Points bodes well for today in the Madison. We will give it a lash today and see how that goes – and hopefully do better than yesterday!”
