As the 2018 season approaches, coaches, teams and athletes all over Ireland are making preparation for the battles to come.

With that in mind, renowned mental fitness coach Alan Heary and Cycling Ireland have developed an affiliation scheme aimed at helping riders mentally prepare for events in 2018.

Members of Cycling Ireland will be given a €100 voucher to use against the purchase of Going in the Zone, Heary’s mental training programme for sports.

Members who have already renewed their membership will be emailed details about how to redeem this voucher; for everyone else it will be included in the welcome email.

Recognised as one of Ireland’s top mindset coaches, Alan Heary includes Olympic cyclists, professional riders on the road and ultra-distance racers among his clients.

He currently works with Cycling Ireland as a tutor and is involved in the development of their rapidly evolving programmes for coaches.

The Going In The Zone online program is a step by step, simple to follow set of videos, pdfs and webinars with a comprehensive 50-page PDF workbook full of practical exercises, which you can complete in your own time.

Throughout the year, the athlete, team or coach will have email access to Alan Heary to ask questions about how you or your athlete can improve performance.

Unlike most sports psychology training programs Heary doesn’t just use sports psychology techniques but also includes use other systems he has studied and researched over the years including hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic-Programming (NLP).

For Alan Heary, the process of integrating a structured approach to mental toughness is the final spoke in the wheel of a complete and integrated training programme.

“Cyclists the world over have woken up to the need to adopt a goal-driven approach to mental toughness,” says Heary. “
As I often say, positive thinking is nice but positive habits create winners.

“With the Going in the Zone Programme, riders, teams and coaches have the tools to take their focus to a new place. As a passionate bike rider, I relish the chance to make a positive contribution to the development of the sport in Ireland.”

In welcoming the new affiliation scheme between Alan Heary and the governing body for the sport in Ireland, Heather Boyle, Communications Officer, Cycling Ireland said: “Mindset training and mental toughness are key components for bike riders achieving the goals they set.

“For Cycling Ireland, the opportunity to partner with one of the acknowledged leaders in the field is a great string to our bow and adds to the suite of benefits on offer to members in 2018."
