Susie Mitchell and Orla Hendron brought Ireland’s participation in the World Masters Track Championship to a very satisfying end. A championship that started with a silver from Terry Mackin ended with a Silver for Orla Hendron in her points race while Susie Mitchell took Gold and the World title in her final race. That took Ireland’s total to 9 medals from 12 riders.  Orla had a very speedy Danish rider to contend with but scored in all sprints to secure a well-deserved silver, while Susie had multiple World Champion Erin Criglinton (NZ) to contend with in the sprints while having close down the counter attacking Melanie Sneddon (GBR) who tried repeatedly to gain a lap.

There were 438 from 25 nations at the Championships including 62 USA , 42 France and 30 Australia apart from the large contingent from the UK. Our riders fared very well given most of our training is done outdoors and it was a great team effort from coaches , mentors, helpers and mechanics and indeed support of each other from the riders themselves.
