FULL JUNIOR SQUAD EMBARK ON FIRST OVERSEAS CAMP OF 2014

Eleven Person Squad of Juniors Train in Majorca during School Break

Ireland’s early season Junior Squad has been named ahead of the first overseas training camp of 2014. The eleven person team comprising of 3 junior women and 8 junior men, were selected based on recent trials and previous performances.  On Monday the squad will travel to Majorca, coinciding with the school midterm break, to train intensively both on the roads and in the indoor Velodrome.

Development Coach Neill Delahaye said “This time of year it is about building form, this is a good block of training for the riders, while they have a window of opportunity in their studies. The mixture of track and road means that they will get to brush up on and improve their technical skills on the track, and also get to train on good roads, with renowned climbs, in better weather conditions than at home.”

Delahaye highlighted that this is a high performance training camp emphasising that “riders were selected based on their ability. They are riders that have proven themselves with previous results or recent tests.”

With three junior women named on the team, Junior Women’s Coach Orla Hendron said “The riders selected for this camp have World Class Potential. There is also so much talent coming up, that these riders will constantly be pushed to keep their position on the team.”
