Last preparations are being put in place and the first teams starting to arrive ahead of this year’s Junior Tour of Ireland. The race has established itself as one of the biggest and most popular stage events for junior cyclists throughout the world. This year brings a record entry of 115 starters, including teams from USA, South Africa, England, Holland as well as an Irish National Team, a provincial team from all four provinces and numerous club teams.


As usual, the cyclists will start their race with a 6km Time Trial next Tuesday, before taking on 5 consecutive road races, taking in some of the Wild Atlantics Way most beautiful scenery. The cyclists will battle it out for numerous jerseys including the yellow leader’s jersey, the green point’s jersey, the polka-dot king of the mountains jersey and the white year one junior jersey.


Race director, Alice Sherratt thanked Scott Bicycles for their continued sponsorship and commented that the race simply could not go ahead without their support. She also gave thanks to everyone who will give up their time in numerous ways over the next week for the benefit of the race and these young cyclists. She finished by saying “The very best of luck to all competitors in this year’s record entry, and I look forward to seeing you all home safe!”
