Statement Junior Tour 2015

From the Junior Tour Organising Committee

Following on from the unsuccessful motion at the Cycling Ireland AGM by Noel Kelly of Team Bikeworx, Celbridge to apply a levy on competitive licences for the Junior Tour, the level of support, offers and ideas towards race organiser, Alice Sherratt from the general cycling community nationwide has been nothing short of astounding.

Countless phone calls have been made and discussions have taken place over the past few days in relation to the proposal made by Martin O’Loughlin, Iverk Carrick to hold a fundraising sportive for the Junior Tour in advance of the coming season.

As of today Tuesday 4th November, resulting in the support and goodwill of the Irish cycling membership, Junior Tour 2015 will most likely take place as per its requested dates of July 14th to 20th 2015.

The organising committee are currently in the process of setting up a Paypal account leading to a Junior Tour Trust Fund where donations are certainly most welcome. This system will be live in the coming days and will be accessed through www.juniortourofireland.com and www.irishroadclub.com .

Resulting from the kind offers of so many people to assist in the organising of a fundraising sportive for the Junior Tour Trust Fund, I am happy to announce our intentions to promote such an event in the West Dublin/ Kildare area on Sunday 1st February 2015.

The event HQ is to be confirmed as are the routes, but will take the form of a 100km reliability cycle and a shorter 50km cycle for youths to also participate. Further details will be released in the coming weeks and may feature some high profile names, both past and present who have passed through the Junior Tour.

Sportives will also be taking place in County Cork organised by Will Curtain of Giant Bikes and County Derry, organised by Sean McNicholl of Church Island Cycling Club. Full details will follow shortly. It is offers like these and many more that will help us succeed in securing a 2015 promotion and beyond.

Finally, the organising committee would like to once again thank everybody for their kind words of support. It is certainly heart warming to see that the future of this event is as important to all of you as it is for the volunteer organising committee. We hope to see you all out on your bikes in early 2015 at one of our Junior Tour Trust Sportives.
