CALLING ALL JUNIOR WOMEN: NATIONAL TESTING DAY 18TH JANUARY

Testing Day Announced With Track Cycling Focus

Cycling Ireland is holding a testing day for junior women in Sundrive Velodrome on Saturday the 18th January, with a view of identifying suitable candidates for the High Performance Track Cycling Programme. Any junior women who wish to attend this trial must contact National Coach Orla Hendron to express interest. With Irish track cycling at an all-time high, this is a ground breaking move for junior women’s cycling. Last August saw junior women compete at the Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Glasgow for the first time.

SCHEDULE 18th JANUARY – SUNDRIVE VELODROME:

AM:
Track Cycling Flying 500m

NOTE:
All riders must use a track cycling bike, with normal road racing helmets. The max gear that can be used by a rider is 88 inches.

The following equipment is not permitted in this trial: Disc wheels, deep rim wheels, TT bars, aero helmets, or Casco helmets.

PM: Watt Bike Testing for the top 5 riders from the Flying 500m

Coach Orla Hendron, who last year managed the Neenan Travel 2020 Talent Team, said “this is an exciting time for Junior Women’s cycling. In 2013 junior women raced at the track worlds for the first time, and this year we are starting the programme earlier in the season than ever before. With the success of Martyn Irvine and Caroline Ryan at the elite level, track cycling is the focus of Cycling Ireland, so it is great to be creating opportunities for younger women at this stage.”

Hendron explained "The style of the trial is such that we can assess raw strength and talent, giving equal advantage to all riders."
