Kerry Teenager rides for medal in Individual Pursuit in Junior World Track Championships in Astana
Josie Knight has qualified fourth fastest in Individual Pursuit at Junior World Track Championships in Kazakhstan this morning, thereby qualifying for a bronze medal ride against Madeleine Park of New Zealand.
18-year-old Knight from Dingle, Kerry, was in the second of 12 heats and comfortably eclipsed the time of her heat rival Yuya Hashimoto of Japan over 2km to set the benchmark time at 2m26.631s.
Knight faced an anxious wait as rider after rider failed to beat her time until Park replaced her at the top of the timesheets with a time just four thousandths of a second faster.
Poland's Justyna Kaczkowska and Marion Borras made further improvements to secure the top two positions with Knight fourth and through to the third-fourth place ride at Saryarka velodrome in the kazakhstan capital of Astana.
Silver medallist in the European Individual Pursuit last year, Knight has been integrated into the Irish senior team pursuit squad and acquitted herself well riding as an Under-23 at the recent European Track Championships in Greece.
Knight's medal ride will take place during the evening session in Astana which is due to run between 12pm and 2.55pm, Irish time today.
