The Tour of Ulster started today in the Moy with 90.8 miles to cover. By the time the race reached the 1st KOH of the day at 7.7 miles covered a 5 man group had a 19 second lead over the main field. The group consisted of Marc Potts (Cycling Ulster), Lindsay Watson (Cycling Ulster), James Davenport (Strata3-Velorevolution Cycling Team), Adam Stenson (TEAM BIKEWORX Celbridge) & Cian O'Reilly (UCD Cycling Club).


When the race reached the 2nd KOH at Newry the leaders had being joined by more riders and had a 23 second lead over the main field. The 9 man group consisted of Marc Potts (Cycling Ulster), Lindsay Watson (Cycling Ulster), Gareth McKee (Newry Wheelers CC), Mark Dowling (Strata3-Velorevolution Cycling Team), James Davenport (Strata3-Velorevolution Cycling Team), Adam Stenson (TEAM BIKEWORX Celbridge), Robert Jon McCarthy (Team Monaghan), Cian O'Reilly (UCD Cycling Club) & Eoin Morton (UCD Cycling Club).


The 9 leaders stayed away until the 4th KOH of the day at Spelga, at this point the race blew completely apart.


After the descent Robert Jon McCarthy (Team Monaghan) & Eoin Morton (UCD Cycling Club) attacked and this move was to stay away until the end of the stage. They were being chased by Marc Potts (Cycling Ulster) & Chris McGlinchey (Cycling Ulster) who were 28 seconds behind, with 50 seconds back to the remains of the main field.


Eventually a 19 man chase group formed behind the 2 leaders after the 2 chasers were absorbed. This group consisted of the Ronan McLaughlin (Aqua Blue Sport Academy), Seán Lacey (Aqua Blue Sport Academy), Mark O'Callaghan (Aqua Blue Sport Academy), Darnell Moore (Caldwell Cycles Omagh), Conor McCann (Caldwell Cycles Omagh), Craig McAuley (Caldwell Cycles Omagh), Kevin McKinney (CCT), Liam Dolan (Cuchulainn CC), Chris McGlinchey (Cycling Ulster), Des Woods (Newry Wheelers CC), Ben Joughin (Newry Wheelers CC), Gary Donaldson (Omagh Wheelers Cycling Club), Craig Rea (Phoenix CC), Dermot Trulock (Stagg Cycles Lucan Cycling Road Club), Mark Dowling (Strata3-Velorevolution Cycling Team), Adam Stenson (TEAM BIKEWORX Celbridge), Keith Finn (Team Planet X Carnac), Cian O'Reilly (UCD Cycling Club) & Louis Carnec (UCD Cycling Club).


The 2 leaders lead stretched to over 2 minutes, but Eoin Morton (UCD Cycling Club) had a rear wheel puncture with just over 18km to go. Robert Jon McCarthy (Team Monaghan) waited for Morton after his puncture and the 2 riders stayed together until the finish where Morton outsprinted McCarthy to take the stage win.


Eoin Morton (UCD Cycling Club) is now the new race leader.


The leader of the King of the Hills competition after day 2 is Eoin Morton (UCD Cycling Club).


The stage tomorrow starts at The Square, Moy (09.50 am) and finishing at The Square, Moy (12.40pm), this 70.6 mile stage is another tough stage with 6 climbs on route.
