Nicolas Roche, riding for Team Sky, has won the Elite Men's Road Race at the National Cycling Championships in Kilcullen today. Roche attacked a breakaway group of 8 riders in the 192km race in the last lap, coming across the line alone. Former Champion Matt Brammeier came second ahead of a talented young Michael O'Loughlin, winner of the U23 title.

In the 96km Elite Women's Road Race Lydia Boylan retained her national title. Known for her sprint Boylan unleashed her power in the last 100m to win ahead of Eve McCrystal in second and Fiona Meade third. Boylan has spent the past few seasons honing her speed on the track with the Irish team, and competes on the road with Team WNT.
