KERRY GROUP RAS MUMHAN 2015 4 Day International Cycle Race was officially launched at Kerry Group Headquarters in Tralee on Friday last. The Race, which starts in Killorglin on Good Friday April 3rd and has stages in Kenmare and Waterville on Easter Sunday, will finish back in Killorglin on Easter Monday morning, after a tough 500km  route with two  major climbs, over the Healy Pass  and Coom an Easpaig.

 

Launching the race, Mr. Frank Hayes, Director of Corporate Affairs with Kerry Group said: “The level of competition in the Race continues to improve and the Field of 210 riders, from six countries, will compete for one of the most sought after titles in these islands. The amount of interest by spectators has also increased dramatically, as could be seen by the huge crowds that turned out to see the r5ace last year, especially at the final stage in Killorglin.”

 

Meanwhile the two National Teams in the event have been named.  

 

Scotland will be represented by:

 

  • Grant Ferguson has just finished 13th overall in the recent Herald Sun Tour in Australia, and held the KOM Jersey after the first stage in this race last year.
  • Phil Trodden also returns to try improve on his 14th overall last year. He is an accomplished track rider.
  • Jack Barrett won the Anerside Classic in Scotland last year, ranked 15th overall in the British rankings.
  • Pete Anderson is a former triathlete and has focused mainly on track and won silver and bronze medals at national level last year.
  • Ryan Fenwick is a former MTB rider; he has also excelled on the track and has a bronze in the team Pursuit at the British Championships last year.
  • Ruari Yeoman is a first year senior.  He won Junior Gold on the Track last year in Scotland.

 

The Manager is Mark McKay, who rode the Ras Tailteann three times and is remembered for his battle with Andrew Roche for the overall title in ’97. He won three stages and was second on the stage in ’97.

 

The Ireland under 23 Development Team has also been named, with Neil Martin as manager.

 

  • Sean McKenna: Aqua Blue, is the man of the moment with six wins this year. He was in yellow after stage 2 last year and finished 4th overall, less than a minute of the winners time.
