Ryan Qualifies for Bronze Medal Final at UCI Track Cycling World Cup Mexico

Ryan to Race for Bronze in the Individual Pursuit, Mullen Sets New National Record in Sprint

Caroline Ryan has qualified for the Bronze Medal Final in the Women’s Individual Pursuit at the Track Cycling World Cup in Aguascalientes, following a strong performance in the qualifying round, where she was the fourth fastest rider, in a season best time of 3min34.668. Ryan will race against Ukraine’s Anna Solovey in the 3km race against the clock later on tonight. The gold medal will be decided between Elinor Barker (GBR) and Rebecca Wiasak (AUS).

Speaking from the Velodrome, Head Coach Brian Nugent said “Caroline recovered well from the Points Race last night, and performed very well this morning. It’ll be close this evening in the final, but we have a plan, and we will focus on the delivery of that.”

Irish Sprinter Eoin Mullen continued his progress when he once again broke the National Record in the 200m Sprint, setting a time of 9.834sec, travelling at over 73kmph. Despite being within .5sec of the fastest qualifier, Francois Pervis, who broke the world record in doing so, Mullen fell short of progressing to the next round, finishing in 32nd place.

Nugent was happy with Mullen’s race saying “Eoin had a great race this morning, and is continuing to set PBs. He’s making great progress.”

The main goal of the Irish Team at this second World Cup of the Season, is to secure qualifying points for the World Championships in February. Ryan has now secured a place in both the Points Race and the Individual Pursuit.

The World Cup runs from the 5th – 7th December in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
