Support the College Green Plaza Proposals

Dear Friends,

Dublin City Council has published plans for a world class pedestrian plaza and cycling route at College Green

VIEW THE PROPOSAL HERE.

We have created the petition: Supporting College Green Plaza to support the plaza and call for crucial design features that will make it work for cyclists and pedestrians.

It would mean a lot to us if you took a moment to add your name to the petition.

Why is this important?

  • Cycling already accounts for 27% of all traffic on Dame Street, making it the most popular cycling area in Dublin, in spite of the current hostile conditions.
  • With an expanding population and national policy to increase the share of walking and cycling trips across the city to 25% in the coming years, this area needs to be equipped to handle a proportionate increase.

We’re calling on the City Council to guarantee the delivery of a new College Green that meets the needs for current cycling and walking volumes and is future-proofed for projected demand.

We are calling for a detailed design that:

  • Does not use shared walking and cycling areas
  • Uses self-enforcing separated cycle tracks
  • Has bus stop bypasses at all stops on Dame Street

Real change happens when people come together and stand up for what they believe in. Together we can reach lots of people and help create change around this important issue.

As well as signing the petition we are urging all members of the public to show their support for the College Green Plaza by emailing the City Council offices (traffic@dublincity.ie) by 5 pm on 24 May.

After you've signed the petition, could you also take a moment to share it with others? It's really easy – all you need to do is forward this email.

Thank you!
