Dublin Cycling Campaign is hosting a free, family-friendly cycle on Sunday 10th September in support of the proposed Liffey Cycle Route. The cycle will begin at 11am at the Wellington Monument in Dublin’s Phoenix Park. Participants will cycle in one big group from the Phoenix Park along the North Quays as far as the Samuel Beckett Bridge before turning left off the Quays and proceeding along the North Circular Road as far as Phibsborough.
Phizzfest and local residents groups in Phibsborough will then host an on-street celebration with refreshments outside Bang Bang café on Leinster Street. Local residents in Dublin 7 are keen to highlight the need for better cycling and walking facilities in their area, as well as improved links with the city centre.
The Liffey Cycle Route is proposed to be a segregated two-way cycle track running all the way from the Phoenix Park to the Point Village along Dublin’s North Quays. The cycle track, when completed, would resemble the highly successful Grand Canal Cycle Route. Dublin City Council’s Transport SPC Committee is expected to make a decision on the route in September so it is vital to act now and show just how much support there is for this critical piece of cycling infrastructure.
