Cycling Ireland Team Scotland Bound for First World Cup

This weekend will see the Irish Track Team tackle the first of the World Cups on track cycling calendar. Fresh from competition at the European Championships in Paris last month, a compact team of six riders will compete in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow from the 4-6 November.

Racing begins on Friday with the Irish interest being in sprinter Eoin Mullen and the Women’s Keirin event which will feature Olympian Shannon McCurley. On Saturday the two Lydias, Boylan and Gurley, will once again test their skills in the Madison, a new event on the women’s race calendar. The pairing finished a credible 7th place in this event in the European Track Championships two weeks ago.

On the closing day Glasgow based Robyn Stewart will team up once more with former international rower Eimear Moran in the Women’s Team Sprint, Boylan will compete in the Omnium and Gurley will race in the Scratch Race.

Speaking ahead of the competition Cycling Ireland Technical Director Brian Nugent said “At the European Championships we established a starting point for this four year cycle, and now it’s a matter of honing our skills and improving across the categories. We have a good bunch of riders here with scope for improvement.”

The Track World Cup in Glasgow runs from Friday 4th November to Saturday 6th November in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
