Six Riders to Compete in Apeldoorn at the Second World Cup

Fresh from an encouraging outing in Glasgow, a compact Irish Team will be competing in the second World Cup on the UCI Track Cycling calendar for 2016/2017. Six riders will compete across seven events this coming weekend, with the competition running from the 11th – 13th November. Racing starts on Friday morning with Felix English in the Scratch Race and Lydia Boylan in the Omnium. Last weekend Cycling Ireland had a team competing in the first World Cup of the year, in Glasgow, four of this team will be in action again this weekend. The UCI Track Cycling World Cup runs from Friday – Sunday in the Dutch city of Apeldoorn.

English has had mixed results over the past year in their respective events, with the elusive medal in the Scratch being within English’s grasp several times this year. A fourth place in the Track World Cup in Hong Kong last January and fifth in the European Track Championships last month will no doubt drive the 24 year old rider from Madison Genisis on this weekend over the 7.5km race.

Cycling Ireland Technical Director Brian Nugent is confident that English has the capability of a podium performance saying “After a strong start in Glasgow last weekend, we are looking forward to getting more experience in Apeldoorn in this second World Cup.”

The Track World Cup in Apeldoorn runs from Friday 11th November to Saturday 13th November in the Omnisport Velodrome in Apeldoorn, in The Netherlands
