Lativan duo first and second in explosive finish at Tourmakeady race. The event was handicaped with 6 minutes separating front to back with the A4’s getting the biggest gap of 3.30mins the other categories only received small Hcap over the A1’s for the 2 lap of 25k.
The hilly course with 3 descent hills on each lap suited the strong rider. After one lap the gap front to back was only 2.20 and it looked like the A1’s would steel the show but a concerted effort by the A3’s driven on by the experienced Nigel Forde GalwayBay CC had his group working well so well in fact they they more or less nullified the effort of the A1’s over the vast majority on the the last lap.
A big bunch gallop looked to have been foiled when a huge attack by Diarmuid O Callaghan Burren RC 500m out nearly snuck him the win but scenting the danger Western Lakes CC Latvian duo struck the after burners and exploded towards the line taking a fine one two for the promoting club.
