Climate Change Public Talk Solutions for a Broken Planet This month our usual Monday meeting has been replaced by our Bike Week evening lecture - "Climate Change - we need to get Real ! Solutions for a Broken Planet" by Dr Cara Augustenborg, an environmental scientist and communication expert specializing in climate change impacts and solutions
The Public Talk is on Tuesday 14th June at 7pm and it will be held at the Wood Quay Venue, in the Civic Offices on Wood Quay. The event is free, but to be sure to get a place please register here.

Phoenix Park Bike Tours There will be three bike tours in Phoenix Park for Bike Week. Join us on Wednesday 15th June to 'Meet the Fawns' in a tour led by Paddy Crowe, Park Deer Ranger.
On Thursday 16th June, join Leif, the Phoenix Park biodiversity guide, will take us on a rambling bike tour through the wonders of nature that abound in Dublin’s Phoenix Park.
And on Friday 17th June, for the Phoenix Park and 1916 - A Historical Bike Tour, John McCullen, Park Historian will take you on a voyage of discovery through the past and through the characters, the monuments and the buildings of Dublin’s National Historic Park.
Tours are free and start at 6.30pm. Booking is essential and all details can be found on our website.

Sligo's Bike Buffet An innovative event from the Sligo Cycling Campaign. On Thursday 16th of June they are hosting a "Bike Buffet" for Bike Week.
The gastronomic party on wheels will meet in Cleveragh Park and start with a gentle cycle along the Garavogue river shore arriving to the Riverside Hotel for some Mocktails. After a short pedal around town there will be a stop at Cafe Fleur for surprise starters, then continue along the Sligo Bay to the Radisson Hotel for a BBQ, and finally return to the Glass House Hotel for dessert.

Cycle City Active City Leicester Conference We keep a close eye on developments across the water in how British cities are changing to accommodate more cycling. As Irish campaigners, we regularly travel across to cycling planning / advocacy events and enjoy meeting our cycle campaigning colleagues and swapping notes.
Damien O Tuama's latest trip was to Leicester to attend the Cycle City Active City Leicester conference. Leicester is undergoing a rapid transformation in recent years. Not only does the city boast the largest area of pedestrianised streets of any UK city (with cycle access and no record of serious collisions!), it has also been dismantling some of its gigantic flyovers – classic symbols of 1960s motorised automobility – and promoting urban regeneration. The nurturing of an everyday cycling culture is very much part of this mix. All of this has been helped along by a directly elected Mayor of the City Council (Peter Soulsby) and one of the most dynamic local authority cycling officers in the UK (Andy Salkeld).

Cargo Bike Championships For the 4th year running the Irish Cargo Bike Championships are returning to the Phoenix Park as one of the last official Bike Week events.
This is a free, family-friendly event, but we do appreciate if you could register your attendance so we have a good idea of numbers to expect.
On the day, there will be some cargo bikes available for those who do not yet have their own cargo bike, and there will be other activities for every cyclist as Pedal in the Park is taking place at the same time.
There will be food stalls on site providing refreshments, or bring your own picnic.

Cyclist.ie at ECF AGM in Stockholm Stockholm was the host city for this year’s AGM of the European Cyclists’ Federation – the annual gathering of the member groups of ECF. Colm Ryder and Damien Ó Tuama represented Cyclist.ie – the Irish Cycling Advocacy Network. ECF welcomed three new member groups to the network and Damien was elected as Vice-President of ECF which is good news for cycling in Ireland! | | 
Cycling Ireland and Cyclist.ie Tie the Knot! Cyclist.ie and Cycling Ireland have just released a Press Statement formally announcing their plan of cooperation to promote everyday cycling.
The two national organisations have come together to form a strategic partnership to promote and advocate for the development of cycling on the island of Ireland. Cycling Ireland is the national governing body for the sport of cycling in Ireland, with an aim of promoting cycling as an accessible and enjoyable pursuit, and Cyclist.ie is the umbrella network for the majority of cycle advocacy groups in Ireland, with a vision to make cycling a normal part of transport and everyday life in Ireland.
The alignment between the two will strengthen the messages for cycling in Ireland, and help increase the voice of cycling across the island of Ireland.

Dublin May Cycling Challenge Ends Dublin's participation in this year's European Cycle Challenge has been a great success! We had over 1,000 participants by the end of the month as word got around and we managed to rack up over 100,000 km during the month. Pretty impressive overall, although way behind the top city of Gdansk in Poland who had over 6,000 participants who clocked up over 800,000 km. They really have got their act together over there in Poland! Check out the website for all the final results.
in Dublin terms, the Dublin Cycling Campaign team came third, although many of our members were scattered throughout a variety of other teams. And the great organisation and updates from Sinéad Flavin in the NTA were wonderful and encouraged people to get out on their bikes more. A big 'bualadh bos' for Sinéad. Let's hope we can continue with the idea next year and prepare even better! For those of us who participated, it was very interesting and informative as well as being good fun! This small poem written by Clara Clark, one of the participants expresses very well the sentiments.
