Since the end of September we have had a rollercoaster of results on the World and European level in cycling - so much so that our What's Happening newsletter has rolled into November to capture them all! While for many of us October and November are recovery months, our international athletes have been at their peak - with top results across the disciplines overseas. Speaking of recovery, we are also very excited about the upcoming Annual Awards Night - on the 26th November. Cycling Ireland Awards Night - Thank you to the 1600 Cycling Ireland members who recently voted in the Membership Awards. We currently have our hamsters working hard on removing duplicates votes and confirming membership IDs before we can announce all the winners on the night of the Awards Dinner. The Awards Night will be an exciting night celebrating all areas of cycling with special guests including the President of the European Cycling Federation Bernhardt Ensinck and riders including Eddie Dunbar, Martyn Irvine, Robin Seymour, Greg Callaghan and recent European Medallist Anna Turvey. We will also be honouring cycling across all disciplines, with a special tribute to Richie Byrne, the godfather of MTB in Ireland, who recently passed away - READ MORE ABOUT THE NIGHT HERE. October had many sporting highlights - with one of the main ones being the RYAN MULLEN'S PHENOMENAL FIFTH AT THE WORLDS and EDDIE DUNBAR FINISHING NINTH. The last of the National Championships also took place, with Gorey CC hosting the Hill Climb Championships in Wexford. CHECK THE RESULTS HERE. Over the past four weeks the Irish Track Team have finished with 21 top ten results across three international events - the European Track Championships, which included ANNA TURVEY'S SENSATIONAL BRONZE and two World Cups, with MARK DOWNEY WINNING GOLD at the Apeldoorn Track World Cup. In the European Cyclo-Cross Championships the Offroad Commission entered a young team with David Conroy finishing 39th after suffering a puncture early in the U23 race, and the junior riders JB Murphy and Craig McCarthy finishing 42nd and 51st in their debut championship event. |
