Last year Cycling Ireland were again successful in obtaining funding under the Women In Sport initiative. The purpose of this Sport Ireland initiative is to increase participation of women in sport and to raise the overall physical activity levels among women.
As part of the application Cycling Ireland committed to organising or supporting cycling programmes for 230 women and girls however that target was exceeded as over 280 participants took part in a variety of programmes and cycling initiatives all over the country.

Working in collaboration with a number of clubs, coaches and other organisations the programmes covered a range of locations and cycling disciplines and offered greater opportunities for female participants to get involved in cycling, many of these for the first time. The programmes also created pathways to clubs and organised activity to enable participants continue after the programmes had ended.
We would like to say a massive well done to all the participants and a huge thank you to all the coaches, leaders, clubs and organisations involved in the project:
