Star Studded Entry for Flagship Track Meeting
Three reigning world track champions, a reigning world junior road champion and a former world senior road race champion are among the dizzying array of talent on the entry list for next weekend's Dublin Track Cycling International at Eamonn Ceannt Stadium.
In what is set to be an unprecedented display of talent on show at an Irish track meet, riders representing 13 nations will head to the Sundrive Velodrome in Crumlin, Dublin for the two-day event to battle it out for all important UCI ranking points.
The DCC-supported event is the only UCI Class 1 event in Ireland this year and, in a rare gesture for a track event of this prestige the organisers have announced free admission for all spectators.
Among the stand-out names on the provisional entry are Dutch sprint powerhouse Kirsten Wild, the reigning World Champion in the Scratch Race and a prolific winner on the road who heads a Netherlands team including former world championship team sprint silver medallist Tim Veldt.
The reigning Men's World Scratch Race Champion Lucas Liss of Germany is also entered for the premier Irish track meeting in 2015.
Heading the New Zealand squad is Regan Gough, a member of the winning Team Pursuit squad at the World Track Championships in Paris last February. He will be joined by emerging stars of the world stage Cameron Karwowski and Nick Kergozou.
Reigning and twice world Junior Road Race Champion Amalie Dideriksen was a bronze medallist in the Points Race at last year's World Championship and is now a fast emerging talent with the Boels Dolmans team.
The most decorated cyclist on an entry list that includes world champions in numerous disciplines is, perhaps, Tatiana Guderzo, who soloed home to win the World Road Race Championship in Mendrisio in 2009 ahead of Marianne Vos.
30-year-old Guderzo is also a force to be reckoned with in the velodrome and counts numerous Italian titles in a glittering palmares.
The local entry can boast its own collection of top international results. 2013 World Scratch Race Champion Martyn Irvine heads the home challenge, the County Down native having also won a silver medal in the Individual Pursuit on that famous day in Minsk.
Kildare's Caroline Ryan counts a bronze medal in the World Championship Points race among her extensive sporting achievements and is set to push for a maiden Olympic appearance as part of a strong Irish contingent next weekend.
Josie Knight won a European Junior Championship Silver Medal in the Individual Pursuit at her first international event last year and the Kerrywoman is a fast developing member of the Irish senior team pursuit squad.
National sprint champions Eoin Mullen and Lydia Boylan also decorate the entry list on what promises to be a famous weekend for Irish track cycling.
