SILVER for Lynch in C2 Pursuit at Track World Championships


Colin Lynch Seizes Silver in the Men’s C2 Pursuit Finals World Championships in Mexico

Colin Lynch won Silver in Men’s C2 3km Pursuit at the UCI Paracycling Track World Championships, recording a blistering fast time of 3.43.423. In the Gold medal ride off he met reigning Paralympic Champion from China, Guihua Liang, who outpowered him over the 3km race against the clock. Both tandems were competing in the 1km Time Trial, earlier this evening, where they finished outside the medals, with Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal storming to a new National Record in a time of 1.10.893.  Ireland’s Enda Smyth was also in action today, breaking the Irish Record in the Men’s C3 Pursuit in a time of 3.40.297, putting him in tenth place.

 

Lynch rode a career best time in the final, in a proud attempt to defend his World Title. However, the Paralympic Champion was the stronger rider on the day, with Lynch pushing him all the way. With this being the first major Track Cycling event since the Paralympic Games it was always going to be an intense race.

 

Speaking after the qualifying rounds Paracycling Coach Neill Delahaye said

 “Colin was second in what was an exciting final. He delivered the right strategy, and executed his best ever performance with a significant PB and NR. This was significantly faster than his qualification time earlier today. On the day the Chinese rider deserved the win, but Colin pushed him all the way to the limit. It was an impressive ride, and a great way to secure a well earned silver medal.”

 

With Saturday being the final day of racing at the Paracycling Track Worlds, Enda Smyth and Colin Lynch will once again be in action, racing in the Men’s 1km Time Trials. The competition takes place in Aguascalientes, Mexico, between April 10th and 12th.
